This site is dedicated foremost to the enjoyment of Asian cinema, but is also a celebration of all things Asia located right here in Texas. While this site originated as a portal for San Antonio events only, I have decided to broaden its appeal and place greater focus on the films themselves, regardless of if or when they may ever appear in Texas. Simply put, when this project started in 2004 there was a decent handful of Asian films being released and also several that were screened on-demand via the community of this site. Since then the Asian film scene has slowly come to a hault in SA. In 2009 one lonely Asian film was released, Ponyo, a Miyazaki anime distributed by Disney.
Perhaps it is a sign that the audience for such films has declined locally. It could also be that the output of quality films has decreased over the years, which may be true, but certainly there's more than one movie worthy of being imported to the SA market any given year. Instead of playing the waiting game the new goal of this site will be to promote the best Asian films coming to theaters or DVD as well as ones that are currently available on either disc or download. The blog has already been aimed in that direction. I will still continue to post screenings in SA when they come along and I will also be working Dallas into the mix (my new HQ). Hopefully this site will adapt and evolve into a more useful and entertaining source for Asian film.
